Freedom Fighters: Vietnam Vet Reunion

Thirty-five years ago the men of the First Battalion 71st Armor Scout Platoon faced death together in Vietnam. This week they met again at the Spring Lake cabin of Lynn and DeWayne Snow. Fried fish with all the trimmings and an entire table of desserts set the stage for a day of reunion and remembrance. Of the 58,000 plus men killed in Vietnam, 61 percent were 21 or younger. Larry Fincher, who got the reunion together, can't forget the loss of young life or the way Vietnam Veterans were treated when they returned home.
Although polls show that most Americans now hold Vietnam Veterans in high esteem, psychological healing has been as necessary as the healing of wounds from land mines and booby traps. On this beautiful Fall day in East Texas, these veterans of the sixteen year war in Southeast Asia, all feel lucky to be alive. They're especially happy to be sharing the day with their band of brothers.
