Former Jacksonville Mayor Running For State Senate
A former Jacksonville mayor and Texas Transportation Commisioner is running for the soon-to-be-vacated Senate seat of Todd Staples.
Republican Robert Nichols announced his candidacy Wednesday for Senate District 3.
Nichols served as a city councilman, then mayor of Jacksonville, and in 1997 was appointed by then-Gov. George W. Bush to the Texas Transportation Commission.
"I learned a lot as city councilman and a lot more as mayor. I had no idea until I was mayor of all the issues you deal with. You take that and magnify that many fold when you work with a statewide office like I did with the Transportation Commission."
Nichols serves as a board member for Lon Morris College, East Texas Medical Center, and the Nan Travis Hospital Foundation.
Current Senator Todd Staples is running for Agriculture Commissioner.
