Former Smith County Commissioner Charged With Inappropriate Touch

Former Smith County Commissioner Frank Sawyer is accused of inappropriately touching a female Smith County employee.

Sawyer served as Precinct 3 Commissioner from 2001 to 2005. The alleged incidents occurred in 2003 and 2004.

The Texas Attorney General's office recommended the Class C misdemeanors after a Smith County Grand Jury refused to indict Sawyer on a charge of official oppression.

Sawyer's attorney, Bennett White, told KLTV he and his client are waiting to get all the facts of the charges before commenting further -- except he does say Sawyer still hasn't been given the chance by law enforcement to give his side of the story.
