FEMA Opens Recovery Center to Assist Katrina, Rita Victims

Those who need help from FEMA or the Small Business Administration for either Hurricanes Rita or Katrina can apply at special centers this week.

Your questions about federal, state, or local aid can be answered by a government representative. Doors open on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to the Marshall Civic Center. Then the special assistance center shifts to the city of Jefferson.

New Orleans resident Diane Jefferson lost everything during Hurricane Katrina.

"This has been a blessing for me today, and they did tell me I am eligible. Hopefully, I'll see the light and be able to settle down," she said.

The Marshall recovery center is at the Marshall Civic Center on Highway 59 South.

The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Jefferson Cypress Valley Alliance at 120 East Austin Street. On Saturday, the hours  are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
