East Texan Injured On Monday Night Football

It was very scary, but it looks like he's going to be OK.

That's the assessment from Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman talking about injured wide receiver Terrence Murphy. The Tyler native was sent to a hospital after being taken off the field on a stretcher in the second quarter of the Packer's loss to Carolina. The former Chapel Hill star had just picked up a fumbled kick return and turned up field when he was tackled by Carolina's Thomas Davis.

It appeared to be a helmet-to-helmet hit that caused Murphy to fold awkwardly as he collapsed to the ground. He lay motionless on the field surrounded by medical personnel for several minutes as his teammates kneeled in prayer. The Packers said Murphy was alert and awake in the locker room with movement in his limbs, but was complaining of numbness and tingling.

Sherman said Murphy was expected to stay at a hospital in Charlotte until Wednesday.
