Wildfire Threatens More Than 2100 Buildings

A southern California wildfire has scorched more than 17 thousand acres. Mandatory evacuations were issued, and about 1,500 people had been evacuated from the surrounding areas because of the Chatsworth/Topanga fire.

More than 2100 residential and commercial buildings have been threatened by the raging wildfire. Authorities said dry conditions have fueled the Chatsworth fire. Several shelters have been opened to take in local residents and at least one school district closed its schools today.

Nearly 2,000 homes have been saved thanks to the efforts of more than 3,000 firefighters from five different area fire departments.
