Longview man arrested after fleeing from, assaulting two officers

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - A man was arrested after he assaulted two Longview police officers Friday.

According to a Facebook post from the Longview Police Department, officers were dispatched just before 8 a.m. Friday to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Farmer Street and West Pliler Precise Road.

The post said when officers arrived, they found a man inside a car at the location.

Police said the man ran from them and attempted to elude capture. The post said after a short pursuit, officers were able to capture the suspect.

Police said the suspect then began to fight with officers. Two officers and the suspect received injuries as a result of the altercation.

The post said the two officers and the suspect were transported to Longview Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the suspect, identified as 33-year old Jace Martin Laws of Longview, was charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer and evading arrest/detention. He was transported to the Gregg County Jail.

The post said both of the injured officers were able to return to work.
