City of Tyler issues update, warning on payment system security breach

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The City of Tyler sent an update regarding the payment system security breach that was reported earlier in the week.

The city warns that whether fraud has yet been detected on your card or not, you should know that your information was compromised if you used it to pay your water bill, tickets, etc., from June 18-Aug. 21 of this year. It is stressed that those users need to request a new card.

The statement from Jenny Wells with the city read as follows:

As fraud cases continue to be reported to the Tyler Police Department, the City of Tyler would like to remind Tyler Water Utilities and Municipal Court customers who utilized the one-time payment option (online or in-person) from June 18, 2018, to Aug. 21, 2018, to notify their banking institution and have a new debit or credit card issued. Whether fraud has been detected or not, any card number used in the listed timeframe was compromised and needs to be changed.

The previous story said that a third-party was able to gain access to payments made through the system the City uses to collect payments for utilities and municipal court fines and fees. You can read that story by clicking here.
