Tyler bank robber found guilty

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - A 58-year-old man has been found guilty of robbing three credit unions, one being an East Texas bank.

Wayne Alan Watson, of Fort Worth, was found guilty of robbing Altra Federal Credit Union in Tyler, Texas on December 1, 2017, City Credit Union in Gainesville, Texas on October 16, 2017, and Texoma Educators Federal Credit Union in Denison, Texas on December 19, 2017.

Additional robberies have led to his identification as a serial robber.

A press release states, "A search warrant was executed at Watson's residence in Fort Worth on Feb. 13, 2018, where the vehicle used in two of the robberies, a 2015 red Volkswagen Jetta, was located, in addition to several articles of clothing Watson wore in each of the robberies. Watson was indicted by a federal grand jury on Mar. 14, 2018 and charged in the Eastern District of Texas with federal violations."

Watson faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison for each charge at sentencing. He was found guilty of three counts of armed bank robbery by a jury after a three-day trial.

The press release also states that this case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Texas Department of Public Safety-Texas Rangers Division, Gainesville Police Department, Tyler Police Department, Denison Police Department, Austin Police Department, and the Wichita Falls Police Department.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lesley Davis Brooks and Maureen Smith.
