CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is advising residents against reported fraudulent callers impersonating sheriff's deputies.
According to the sheriff's office, they have received reports of fraudulent calls where the caller identifies themselves as a deputy with the office and tell the call receiver they have outstanding warrants for their arrest. The caller then tells the receiver that they must send money in order to avoid being arrested.
The CCSO assured their residents that the office does not contact people and request money. They also said they do not have automated phone lines and if someone receives an automated response when trying to reach the office, it should be considered suspicious. All calls to the sheriff's office are answered by staff members.
The office also reported that if they are to leave a call back number it will be 903-683-2271.
"If anyone receives a solicitation from anyone purporting to be from the CCSO please report the incident to the CCSO at 903-683-2271," said the office in a press release.
