TYLER, TX (KLTV) - At Tuesday morning's Smith County Commissioners Court meeting, Fire Marshal Connie Wasson made a presentation on emergency preparedness planning for the upcoming fiscal year.
County Judge Nathaniel Moran says preparing for an emergency will be a big focus for the county. Starting next month, county department heads will begin emergency management training. Wasson says they're working towards an emergency activation drill to help better prepare the county for a possible disaster.
"We're working towards emergency management, as we should all the time," said Wasson. "But we are really focusing on getting that drill done within the next year."
The first training workshop for department heads is scheduled for Oct. 1. An exercise planning meeting is set for Jan. 23 with a group evaluation in February.
