TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance's 30th-anniversary presentation of "The Nutcracker" is fast approaching.
The anniversary signifies a holiday tradition in East Texas, one that many cast members have been a part of for years.
"I've loved nutcracker since I was a kid," performer Allison Garvis said. "The first time I performed I was twelve and then as an adult, I would go see ballet companies wherever I lived [...] that was performing every holiday."
While performance day is months away, auditions are quickly approaching. They are set for Sept. 8. Roles are available for performers, children starting at age six, teens and adults. The academy has more than 100 spots that need to be filled.
"Just come with a smile, enjoy yourself," performer Elexis Wiebe said. "The more you enjoy yourself the more teachers can see that you're enjoying it."
Past performers said the best tip they can give for audition day is to have fun.
"Nerves really just make you tense but just relax and just have fun because no matter what happens it's going to be great," performer Lydia Middelton said.
Audition times are:
• 10-10:45 a.m. for Ages 6-8
• 11 a.m.-noon for Ages 9-11
• Noon-2 p.m. for Ages 12 and up

• 3:30-4 p.m. for Adults, teens or actors interested in the party scene
