Tyler PD: Suspect arrested after aggravated assault

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - From the Tyler Police Department:

On Saturday, September 1, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Tyler Police received a 911 call of an Aggravated Assault in progress at 200 Muller Garden.   

Officers were advised that the suspect, Dwight Shears, B/M, born 10-20-98,  was at this location and was threatening the victim (ex-girlfriend) with a knife. 

Officers were also advised that victim had a protective order against her ex-boyfriend Dwight Shears. 

Officers were able to locate Shears who left the scene before officers arrived traveling southbound on S. Broadway. 

Officers conducted a felony stop on Shears and took him into custody.

Upon further investigation officers determined that Dwight Shears forced his way into the victim's apartment and assaulted her before two other subjects in the apartment attempted to intervene to aid her. 

Shears then used a screwdriver and a knife during the assault cutting one of the male subjects causing minor injuries.   

A second male victim had his cell phone taken by Shears during the altercation. 

Shears was just released from Smith County Jail this morning for a previous assault incident involving his ex-girlfriend. 

Dwight Shears was charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Robbery, and Violation of Protective Order.
