LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The Longview Police Department is marking the life of a former Longview Police Department chief who died Wednesday, saying his direction will be missed.
Retired Police Chief Don Dingler died at his home, according to a news release from the department.
"It is with a heavy heart that Longview Police Chief Mike Bishop announces the passing of retired Longview Police Chief Don Dingler," the statement reads.
Dingler worked with the department from April 16, 1973, to July 31, 2015, when he retired. He served as chief from Feb. 1, 2011, until his retirement.
Dingler grew up in Longview and attended Longview High School and the University of Texas at Tyler. He graduated with a bachelor of science in criminal justice.
"Chief Dingler was a smiling face around the police department and the community for over a quarter of a century and his direction and kindness will be dearly missed. As a department, we salute his memory and honor his service and offer our prayers to the family and friends of Chief Dinger," Bishop stated in the release.
Services are pending with Radar Funeral Home.
