WOOD COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - The Wood County Commissioners Court is holding an emergency session Thursday at 9 a.m. to consider approval of the emergency replacement of a communications tower.
The tower is located off of County Road 3250, just outside of Quitman. The emergency coordinator for the county said the tower is considered dangerous because there is a residence nearby.
According to the Woody County Fire Marshal and Emergency Management Coordinator Tully Davidson, the radio tower was damaged by a storm and the damage is mainly at the top of the tower. It's a communications tower used by the fire departments in the county.
Davidson said it will cost $60,000 to $75,000 to replace it. He said he wants the community to know if the tower does go down, the county is prepared.
"We have backup plans in place for communications, so we would definitely not be without communications for [more than] just a few minutes," he said.
Davidson said the county is working to get the tower replaced as soon as possible.
