Cherokee County: Man sentenced to 35 years for setting woman on fire

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Wednesday for setting a woman on fire.

Austin David Taylor was sentenced for the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon against a Family Member.

According to a press release, the charge is from a 2017 incident where Taylor, who was 25 at the time, assaulted his common-law wife by setting her on fire. The attack left the victim "physically and emotionally scarred for life." Investigators say the incident occurred in the Shady Brook Subdivision in Cherokee County. 

Taylor, who was a resident of Bullard and Tyler. was arrested on March 20, 2017, for the warrant issued in Cherokee County.
