Texas governor hosts roundtable discussion in Tyler

A community roundtable discussion with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the Honorable Ron Price is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.

"Breaking Through the Soundproof Glass" will take place at the New Days Community Church in Tyler, according to a Universal Media Group press release.

Governor Abbott will help moderate the open-form in his desire to meet with local pastors and city officials to see what problems the East Texas community is facing, according to a spokesman of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. 

The event will address a wide range of topics; and, will specifically focus on the needs of the parishioners and their ideas for the future, according to the press release.

"I'm honored to host this historic meeting for Governor Greg Abbott and the Honorable Ron Price as they send the message that we are all God's children, regardless of race or political party," said Reginald Garrett Pastor of New Days Community Church.  

"It's time we focus on things that unite us; the greatness of humanity cannot be overlooked," said Ron Price. 

More than 200 children from the Journeys of the Heart After School Program will attend the event, according to the press release.  

Many local officials are scheduled to attend including Mayor Hines of Tyler, Tyler ISD Superintendent Dr. Crawford, and East Texas African American Pastors and leaders.

    Investigators are praising the quick action taken by a train engineer that averted any serious injuries in an East Texas accident. On Saturday an Amtrak Texas Eagle passenger train, traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles, collided with a truck on a crossing at Stephens road, just east of Hallsville.
