Officials say the wreck is at FM 346 just north of FM 855, south of Teaselville in Cherokee County. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to the scene at about 4 p.m.

Their preliminary crash investigation reports the driver of a 2009 Nissan Murano, identified as Joseph Van, 41, of Flint, was heading north on FM-346 when the vehicle veered off the west side of the roadway. According to DPS, the driver admitted that he was texting at the time of the incident.

The driver then overcorrected, lost control of the vehicle and went through the east guardrail, according to the Lake Palestine Fire Chief Gary Cannon.

Two citizens in a boat were able to rescue the driver and get him to safety.

Emergency officials are still at the scene. The condition of the driver is currently unknown.
