Affidavit: Henderson man tried to get store to transfer child porn to new phone

Tyler police have arrested a Henderson man who is accused of having thousands of pictures and videos of child pornography on his phone.

The investigation began after a Sprint store employee said the man had taken his phone to the store to have the content switched to a new phone.

Benito Campos De La Rosa, 28, is charged with third-degree possession of child pornography. He was arrested on July 31 and is being held on a $150,000 bond and an immigration hold.

According to an arrest affidavit released Tuesday, police began investigating on July 10 at a Sprint store in Tyler. It was reported that employees found a large amount of child pornography on a customer’s cell phone. The customer had bought a new phone and was trying to have the content from one phone transferred to the new phone, according to the affidavit.

Police interviewed Campos De La Rosa, who admitted to knowing about the images and also to knowing he was not allowed to have them, according to the affidavit.

A store employee told police that when he initiated the download, the system crashed due to a large amount of pictures and videos. The employee said he then he looked to see if the cause was the pictures and that is when he discovered the pornographic images and video.

A forensic examination showed there were about 207,034 images and 485 videos on the phone and a large material were child pornographic images and video.

A warrant was obtained for Campos De La Rosa’s arrest on July 20.
