HARRISON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

A Marshall woman is in jail after she allegedly hired someone to kill her husband. Police say the woman thought she was hiring a hitman, but it was actually an undercover officer.

Her husband, William Allen George Jr., says he’s still wrapping his mind around the fact that his wife wanted him dead.

“I thought it was a joke when the officers showed up at the house yesterday to tell me what had happened,” George said.

Marshall police say detectives received a tip that Trisha Groot George, 33, was attempting to hire someone to kill her husband. Marshall Police then reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigation Division for assistance.

“That tip wound up being pretty accurate,” said Kelly Colvin with Marshall Police.

Police say George paid an undercover officer to commit the crime. She was taken into custody Aug. 2 and charged with capital murder by remuneration (Murder for Hire.)

"Obviously, we're just very thankful that somebody did tip us off,” said Colvin. “And we were able to stop that before it got any worse. I mean, the case itself is pretty horrible."

George says he spoke with his wife on the phone last night. She told him this was "just a big misunderstanding, and things were taken out of context.”

"If it hadn't been an undercover officer, then I may not be standing here today," said George.

Trisha George remains in the Harrison County Jail with bond set at $1 million.
