(KLTV) - It's not easy learning the tight-end position, but it's especially difficult when it's with the Dallas Cowboys.
All Big 12 former Baylor basketball player Rico Gathers enters his third year with the Cowboys at tight-end. That starting job became open once Jason Witten left for the broadcast booth, but still Gathers is learning the nuances of that position.
At 6'6, 282 lbs he certainly has the size, he has good hands and worked extensively on his blocking during the off-season.
Cowboys Coach Jason Garrett praises Gathers effort, who hadn't played football since he was 13 when he joined the the team. His desire to be the best is a case of "want to," says the former Bear who garnered all conference Big 12 honors. He's working and has seen game time, and now it's just a matter of putting together a package of consistency.
