Rusk County prison employee accused of smuggling tobacco

RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An employee with the Bradshaw State Jail has been arrested after allegedly getting caught trying to smuggle tobacco into the jail.

Laura A. Rogers, 27, of Henderson, is charged with bribery and prohibited substance in a correctional facility. She is being held in the Rusk County Jail at a collective $10,000 bond.

According to an arrest affidavit, Rogers works as a commissary assistant at the jail. On Aug. 1 at 7:20 a.m., she came to work and security staff searched her bag and discovered five packs of Bugler tobacco, the affidavit states.

The affidavit states Rogers admitted hiding the tobacco inside two candy boxes and she had plans to sell it inside the jail.
