DPS identifies Arp teenager killed in one-vehicle crash when vehicle struck tree

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A teenage driver who was hospitalized when they lost control of their vehicle and struck a tree has died from their injuries, the Texas Department of Public Safety reports.

Slater Dylan Brabec, 17, of Arp, died in the Smith County crash, according to a preliminary DPS crash investigation.

The crash occurred about 12:18 p.m. Wednesday on FM 850, about one mile east of Overton.

DPS says a preliminary crash investigation revealed that Brabec was traveling east on FM 850 in a 2003 Toyota Celica at an unsafe speed when he lost control of the vehicle in a curve. His vehicle left the roadway and he struck a tree.

Brabec was transported to UT Health-Tyler where he later died. His body was transported to Cottle-Pearson Funeral Home in Overton.
