Officials identify victim of fatal 18-wheeler crash in Gregg County

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

Officials have identified the victim of a fatal crash involving an 18-wheeler in Gregg County. 

At about 8:06 a.m. August 1, troopers responded to a one-vehicle wreck on Interstate 20, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. They stated the crash occurred just outside of Kilgore. 

Crash investigators determined the crash occurred when a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor, towing a semi-trailer traveling eastbound in the right lane on I-20 made an "abrupt lane change" to the left and went off the roadway. The truck continued down an embankment before crashing into a a large group of trees.  According to DPS, the passenger of the truck was ejected from the sleeper compartment due to the crash. The vehicle then came to a rest in the wooded area north of the eastbound lanes.

DPS reported the passenger, Enrique Dominguez, 50, from Miami, was declared dead at the scene by Judge Telyna Carlson. The driver of the vehicle, identified by DPS as Raul Sanchez-Ramos, 58, of Hialeah, Florida, was transported to  Good Shepherd-Longview in serious condition. 

The crash remains under investigation, according to DPS.

    Investigators are praising the quick action taken by a train engineer that averted any serious injuries in an East Texas accident. On Saturday an Amtrak Texas Eagle passenger train, traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles, collided with a truck on a crossing at Stephens road, just east of Hallsville.
