Police say a contestant in the Longview Hands on A Hardbody case who killed himself, was able to knock a safety lock off the gun before using it. ATF agents say 24-year-old Richard Vega smashed through a glass gun case when he broke into K-mart, and took a 12-gauge shotgun out. The gun had a safety lock on the trigger, but Vega was able to knock it off somehow. Officials say he loaded it before he was cornered by police, then shot himself.
Police are hoping store video surveillance will tell them more about why the incident happened. The Justice of the Peace in the case has not ordered an autopsy saying "witnesses and police know the cause of death".
