Jacksonville family seeking answers after dog shot on July 4

Dog Shooting

JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - A Jacksonville family is seeking answers after their dog was shot by an officer on July 4.

The officer was responding to a call about illegal fireworks within the city, and she approached the home of Stephanie Lacy and her family during that call.

They say the officer did not approach the front door, but came through the back yard. Then they say they heard a shot and a sound like a scream, which they say was their dog when it was shot.

Jacksonville Police released a statement about the incident.  Police Chief Andrew Hawkes said the call led to an "officer-involved shooting of a German Shepherd."

A departmental administrative inquiry has been opened about the incident as is standard procedure, according to police. At this time the incident is still under investigation.

Jacksonville police will host a press conference on Friday morning in order to provide more information about the incident.
