Westbound I-20 shut down in Gregg Co. after fatal wreck

GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - At least one fatality is confirmed after multiple unrelated wrecks on Interstate 20 in Gregg County Sunday afternoon.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 20 are shut down near Texas Highway 42, about eight miles west of the city of Longview.

Emergency crews responded to reports of multiple wrecks sometime before 1:30 p.m.

An unrestrained passenger in a vehicle involved in one of the wrecks died as a result of their injuries, according to Gregg County Justice of the Peace Tim Bryan. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.

In one of the wrecks, an 18-wheeler left the roadway and skidded into the grassy area of the shoulder.

The roadway was wet at the time, however, the cause of the wrecks and the total number of vehicles involved is unclear.

The conditions of other occupants involved were not immediately known, however Champion EMS is at the scene. Kilgore Police, Kilgore Fire Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety were also responding.
