Bush To Attend Prayer Service

A day after promising a massive federal recovery effort for the hurricane-ravaged Gulf Coast, President Bush is taking time out to remember the victims in prayer.

He's decreed today a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance. The president will be attending a service at Washington's National Cathedral.

In a broadcast address to the nation last night from New Orleans, Bush said Katrina's survivors are showing "a faith in God no storm can take away."

He expressed his faith in "a hope beyond all pain and death" and "a God who welcomes the lost." Bush last night also promised a massive infusion of federal funds for rebuilding. It could cost 200 billion dollars or more, making it one of the largest reconstruction projects ever.

And hoping to avoid a repeat of Katrina's aftermath, Bush announced the government will review the disaster plans of every major American city.
