NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

SFA Baseball's Johnny Cardenas is hoping to have a good talent pool to select from in the coming years thanks to the recent success of alum Hunter Dozier.

Cardenas and his staff held their annual evaluation camp on Monday morning.

"We are looking at talent that may have gone under recruited in high school this year for what ever reason," Cardenas said. "They may of had a bad game situation where they got waked 4 times when we came out to their high school game. We are just looking for talent that can help us next year and in the coming years."

Cardenas could not deny the success that Dozier has had since being called up to the main Kansas City Royals roster last month.Dozier was drafted in 2013 and now is making a name for himself and the school on the national stage.

"In his freshman year he struggled defensively," Cardenas said. "Finding a way to make himself better he did that immediately. His work ethic is better than anyone I have seen. His attention to detail and passion is unmatched."

In a recent series in Houston, Dozier hit a three-run homer that got Kansas City the win.

"He does a great job getting the school's name out there every night," Cardenas said. "In the situation with Houston he goes out there and hits a homer and immediately they are talking about him going to school two hours from there. You can't pay for that kind of advertisement."

As Dozier's career continues, Cardenas and his staff will use it to their advantage as they look for the next pro prospect.

"He was a guy that came here and he is an undrafted free agent out of high school and he is in the first round," Cardenas said. "You can't put a value on what Hunter has done for us to compete and recruit."
