Seven teams from East Texas are making their way to College Station this week for the annual Texas 7on7 Championships.
The annual event is not the same as Friday night football but it b,rings on just as much excitement for the teams. Lovelady is looking to make their first tip a memorable one when they start Division III Pool Play on Thursday. They are joined in Division III by Tenaha. Other East Texas teams include Whitehouse, Palestine, Spring Hill, Gilmer and Pleasant Grove.
"It is like back yard football," Lovelady quarterback Logan Lowery said. "It is a bunch of strategic plays and it helps you get ready for the fall."
The Lions are making their first ever trip to the tournament after qualifying earlier in the summer at the West Harden state qualifier.
"I have wanted to go to state since I was a freshman so this is a big deal to me," Senior Tim Johnson said.
"We have really wanted to over the past couple of years so I say it is a dream come true," Lowery said.
"This is huge," Senior Greyson Bachynsky said. "This is a huge step to our program and a huge step for the team."
If the lions want to get to the elimination bracket they first have to go through Tenaha. The Tigers are coming off of an appearance in the UIL Football State Championships.
"Tenaha has two games before we play them so we are hoping we can catch them on their heels but it is up to the players," Bachynsky said.
With over two months until the lions play a real game, the players use this time to make sure they are on the same page
"We are looking to play to get better," Jay Robinson said. "We want to win but we just want to have a better relationship at the end of it. "
Below are the pool brackets for all three divisions.
