Suspect in botched Tyler bank robbery indicted

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

A  man was indicted for allegedly attempting to rob the Texas Bank and Trust in Tyler.

Robert Freeman, 30, of Tyler was indicted by a Smith County Grand Jury on the charge of robbery. 

The attempted robbery occurred on April 21 at the Texas Bank and Trust, located in the 6500 block of South Broadway. According to police, the suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note advising her of the robbery. The suspect reportedly got nervous when the clerk started to walk away, he then took the note and ran away without any money. 

Police officers arrested Freeman at his home April 25 after investigators received a tip that lead to his identity.  Freeman was seen getting into a gold Chrysler Pacifica that was parked nearby when he allegedly left the scene. Police say evidence was also recovered at the bank.

Freeman was booked into the Smith County Jail. His bond is set at $100,000.
