Smith County officials identify woman found dead in car

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Smith County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the woman found dead in a car.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, Ashton Nicole Williams, 26, of Van was found dead in a car Monday afternoon. 

The Sheriff's Office said they received a 911 call at about 12:40 p.m. Monday reporting a person was found unconscious in a vehicle on the 23600 block of Pecan Drive. Smith County Sheriff's deputies and EMS responded to the scene.

When authorities arrived at the scene, according to the SCSO, they located Williams and determined that she was deceased. The Criminal Investigation Division and the Crime Scene Unit responded to assist with the investigation. 

After speaking with witnesses and processing the scene, detectives with the Smith County Sheriff's Office believe an apparent drug overdose was the potential cause for William's death.

According to officials on the scene, Williams and another woman were sleeping in the vehicle. When the other woman woke up, she noticed that Williams was unresponsive and called 9-1-1. 

An autopsy has been ordered in order to determine the exact cause of death.
