Boys & Girls Clubs Of East Texas Gets Grant

The Boys & Girls Clubs of East Texas gets a check from the J.C. Penney's After school Fund. The $5,000 grant will go to the Power Hour, a homework assistance program that helps kids ages 6 to 18 at nine different locations in Smith County.

The money will be used to buy a number of different items for eight of those centers. "The money is going to be used for incentives, it's going to be used for materials, educational programs, educational activities. They can further enhance the programs and the activities that we do with the kids in the afternoon," says Robbie Slocumb, the executive director of the Boys & Girls Club.

About 500 kids participate in the Power Hour program in Smith County.
