(KLTV) - A Hawkins native has been drafted by a Major League Baseball team.
Derek Craft was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 16th round. He was the 487 overall pick during the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.
Craft, who is also a Hawkins High School alumni, was a right-hand pitcher at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
According to the school website, the 6'8, 220-pound athlete is a reliable pitcher coming out of the bull-pin. He is stingy against the batters, posting a 1.89 ERA. Craft struck out 62 batters in just over 52 innings. He is an overall tough pitcher against opposing hitters, holding them to a batting average of .211.
Craft is the first and only Roadrunner to be selected by the Yankees.
