LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The buzz was back for the Annual East Texas Literacy Spelling Bee on Wednesday.
This once-a-year event brought multiple teams, consisting of adults from various East Texas businesses together, to go head-to-head against one another in a spelling competition benefiting the East Texas Literacy Council's programs.
This year's competition was fierce; the last two teams, Longview Greggton Rotary and U.S. Title, Inc., battled through numerous advanced words until one team emerged victorious. The winner of the spelling bee was the Longview Greggton Rotary team, whose spellers were Taylor Harding and Laura Hill.
The event took place Pine Tree Junior High School in Longview.
Other participating teams were AEP SWEPCO, Austin Bank, CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health Systems, Eastman Chemical Company No. 1 and No. 2, Komato, Longview ISD, Longview News Journal, Longview Regional Medical Center, Neiman Marcus, Pine Tree ISD, Spring Hill ISD, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and Texas Bank and Trust.
The winner of this year's Flamingo award, given each year to the team which gets out first, was Neiman Marcus, represented by Nwadinto Adebamiji and Jessica Teague.
A previous winner and KLTV's own Stephanie "Mama Steph" Frazier emceed this year's spelling bee.
