Community rallies behind Lone Star mail carrier after debilitating wreck

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A beloved East Texas mail carrier lost both legs in a violent car crash.

He's spent 47 days in the hospital so far and is facing overwhelming medical expenses.

"I will not give up," Nathan Davis says, writing because he cannot speak.

A Longview man who was once known as a karaoke DJ legend, with pipes like George Strait, is now reduced to silence; hooked up to tubes and wires.

Images from Nathan Davis' accident do not compare to the damage it did to this 47-year old's body.

Davis' mail carrier vehicle was totaled after he hit a tree going 60 miles an hour. Davis had just finished his route in Lone Star when it happened.

He says it's a job he's taken pride in for 27 years.

"The doctors we have had here say it's a miracle he is still with us," Nathan's father, Norman Davis says.

The Davis family has stayed by their son's side during the past month and a half while he's been in intensive care.

"We just thank the lord for his life," Davis' mom says.

Davis has had spinal surgery, several heart surgeries, both of his legs have been amputated, his spleen removed, multiple bones broken, both lungs have collapsed, his kidneys have failed, and he will likely be paralyzed the rest of his life. With the extensive medical treatment, Davis and his family are having a hard time financially, leaving them to host several fundraisers since the accident in April, which has led the community to open their hearts and wallets to stand behind Nathan.

The next fundraiser the Davis family is hosting is a silent auction and barbecue. That event will take place Saturday, June 9 at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church in Tyler.
