Nation Observes 911 Anniversary

It was four years ago today that terrorists flew hijacked airplanes into the World Trade Center, Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. Sunday at those three locations, people gathered to remember those who died on that day.

At the White House, the President and first lady bowed their heads in remembrance of 911 victims and their families. Bells tolled in Shanksville, PA, as local volunteers read aloud the names of each victim. About 1,000 people were on hand at the memorial, for those who died four years ago on Flight 93. At ground zero, the names of the fallen echoed across the still empty site where the towers once stood in another effort to never forget.

To this day not all of the human remains from the attack have been identified. Officials say 2,973 people were killed in the September 11th terrorist attacks.
