GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) -

A Gladewater baseball field's concession stand has become a target for thieves for the third time in recent months. Most recently, just days before a weekend baseball tournament.

City workers were carrying out regular maintenance tasks at the facility on Sunday when they noticed one of the concession stand doors had been pried open.

"It looks like they had taken a pry bar, and this is a good bit of metal, so it took a lot of effort," said Wes Teague, vice president of the Gladewater/Union Grove Dixie Baseball Association. "They pried it open, dislodged the locks from the track, and raised the door partially to come in and unlock the door."

"I was pretty disappointed," said Teague. "It's sad to see the community hurt itself like this. It's all youth sports, and little kids, so you're essentially stealing from children."

This is the third time something like this has happened in recent months. The first time, a few months ago, Teague said thieves opened a door on the side of the building by removing screws, peeled the metal back, and tunneled through the building through the insulation.

"There wasn't much in there that time, just a few little things," Teague pointed out.

The second time, they came away empty-handed. But most recently, the thieves took off with a majority of the concession stand's inventory, as well as some of the baseball equipment.

"Lot of food items, candy, and drinks, things like that," Teague said. "We had some coolers we planned to use in the upcoming all-star tournament, and they used those to things."

"We use this money to pay our umpires and some of the operating costs for things we need, like trophies for the kids," Teague added.

The Gladewater/Union Grove Dixie Baseball Association is now offering a reward for any information leading to the arrest of the person(s) involved in the theft. Teague said more than anything, he hopes someone is caught so they learn a lesson.

"When bad things happen, just push on. Persevere," Teague said of the message he wanted to send to his kids after what happened. "It's just disappointing that a small portion of the community can hurt so many others."

If you have any information about the break-in, you're asked to call the Gladewater Police Department.
