A head-on collision occurred on Loop 323 after the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the wreck became ill and passed out, according to the Tyler Police Department.
According to a press release, Tyler PD officers responded to the head-on collision in the southbound lanes of Loop 323 just south of Walton Road at about 1:48 p.m. Friday.
"The crash occurred when the 71-year-old driver of a pick-up truck heading north on the loop became ill and passed out," the press release stated. "His vehicle then went into the southbound lanes, striking a 35-year-old female driver head-on."
Both drivers were taken to a Tyler hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the Tyler Police Department, all southbound traffic are reopened on Loop 323 near the intersection with Spur 364.
Traffic was shut down for about an hour as crews responded to the head-on crash near the intersection.
