Despite being summer vacation, high school football players are hard at work on 7on7 football. Lufkin is hoping to make another run at state.
The Panthers begin the journey at The Woodlands Tournament where they will have pool games against Cy Creek, Klein and Klein Collins on Friday.
"I think we are at a good spot right now," quarterback Kewone Thomas said. "It is fun to be out here with these guys and trying to get a leg up on our competition."
The team got a birth in state last year and while they have three tournaments to get that done this year, the Panthers are hoping to get it done on the first try.
"It is important for us to come out hot," Bugg Thompson said. "We want to go ahead and knock out that qualifier so we can start preparing for state. We don't want to worry about all of that."
Next week, the Panthers will host a tournament then will travel to Tyler the following week.
