TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A teacher and a student embraced during a touching moment that was posted on social media. The embrace followed a video that surfaced Friday that allegedly showed a confrontation between the two.

A Facebook user posted a photo on Memorial Day weekend, saying that it shows the two hugging at Omega Ministries International church.

Since it was posted Sunday morning, it has been shared 525 times and received more than 400 reactions.

The initial videos, posted Friday on social media by various users have been viewed thousands of times. The video allegedly shows the Tyler ISD John Tyler High School teacher and student involved in a confrontation.

The teacher, Jermaine Montgomery spoke about the embrace, saying that the student came to the church to apologize. Montgomery said he had served as a mentor to the student on occasions and that they are working to move forward.

The school district released a statement following the release, saying:

"Tyler ISD takes seriously all inappropriate conduct which threatens the well-being of our students and staff. Our preliminary investigation reveals the teacher was assaulted first, and therefore the surfaced video is not indicative of the entire situation that occurred. District administrators are currently investigating the situation and will take appropriate action.

The student was disciplined according to the student code of conduct and the teacher was placed on administrative leave, Tyler ISD Public Information Officer Dawn Parnell said.
