HOUSTON, TX (KLTV) - A former SFA baseball player has been chosen to be a body double for the Houston Astro's 2017 MVP Jose Altuve.

Freddy David Villalobos will be acting as Altuve in an upcoming New Balance commercial featuring a new line of baseball cleats.

Villalobos played on the Lumberjack Men's baseball team from 2011-2013. He said being able to work alongside some of the World Series champions was an opportunity of a lifetime.

"I got to talk to Altuve for a little while," said Villalobos. "Since we are both from Venezuela, it was easy conversation talking about baseball, the situation Venezuela is going through and how different it is living here instead of there."

According to Villalobos, the filming for the commercial took place on May 18th, the same day as the Santa Fe school shooting that left 10 people dead.

"Altuve had a lot of sympathy for them, just as much as everyone else," said Villalobos.

Villalobos also had the opportunity to meet with Astros staff and coaches, including third base coach Gary Pettis.

In the commercial, Villalobos said he will be "doing the things that Altuve wasn't allowed to do." And it won't be long before you see the Lumberjack sliding and running as Altuve in a major campaign.

"It should come out before the MLB All-Star break sometime in July," said Villalobos.
