Bowie County Sheriff investigating death of woman found on side of roadway

BOWIE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The Bowie County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a woman found on the side of a roadway earlier this week.

According to the Sheriff's Office, a resident found a woman on the side of a roadway on May 16. The resident was driving a tractor on the 6600 block of FM 992 when he discovered the woman lying on the side of the roadway. According to officials, it was discovered that the woman was deceased.

Officials identified the woman as Susan Marshall Wilson.

The Sheriff's Office said that evidence at the scene indicated that Mrs. Wilson was struck by a vehicle. Initially, the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the incident as a hit and run. Investigators were not able to identify Mrs. Wilson's husband, Jeffrey Wilson, during this time.

Mr. Wilson was located early this morning. According to the Sheriff's Office, he first claimed that he had been out of town at the time of the incident and could not provide any more information.

Due to the Mr. Wilson's responses, the investigators shifted to the focus of the investigation. Officials still believe that her death was caused by a vehicle striking her, however, the focus has been shifted from a hit and run accident to a suspicious death.

Judge Curtis Cole ordered an autopsy of the body and the results are still pending. Investigators have located Mr. Wilson's vehicle and it is being processed for evidence.

Mrs. Wilson's death is still under investigation.
