TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) has recognized the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden as one of the 2018 Great Public Spaces in Texas.
This recognition is part of the APA's Great Places in Texas program that recognizes and promotes streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces.
A designation ceremony was held today to recognize the achievement. The event was open to the public and several city leaders attended.
The Tyler Rose garden has more than 38,000 rose bushes and at 14 acres, it is the largest municipal garden in the United States.
According to Heather Nick, AICP Managing Director in Tyler, the Rose Garden attracts more than 500,000 visitors each year.
"We think that number is only going to increase. We're very excited about the designation and we're excited about the opportunities for tourism in the future," Nick said.
The Rose Garden is free and open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset.
