ATHENS, TX (KLTV) - An Athens man faces a new child endangerment charge after a 4-year-old child tested positive for cocaine exposure.
Jeffrey DeWayne Wideman, 29, was arrested on a charge of state-jail felony endangering a child on Monday. He posted a $25,000 bail on Tuesday.
According to an arrest affidavit, the investigation on the new charge arose after Wideman was being arrested on drug charges on April 5. The affidavit states an investigator was serving a search warrant at Wideman's home, located in the 300 block of Broadmore Street in Athens and reported finding Wideman sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. Also in the vehicle were Wideman's child and the child's mother.
The deputy reported finding 3.7 grams of crack cocaine and cash in a black bag under Wideman's seat. CPS then came and took emergency possession of the child.
The affidavit states drug screenings showed positive results for Wideman and the child.
