State Senator Todd Staples Announces Run For Agriculture Commissioner

State Senator Todd Staples is running for Texas Agriculture Commissioner in the 2006 election.

He made the announcement Tuesday morning in Tyler, Palestine, and Longview, and will be traveling the state over the next two weeks. Staples is serving his fifth term as senator for Senate District 3, which covers most of the southern half of East Texas, and he says all East Texans have a stake in agriculture.

"Promoting sound water policy, promoting nutritious and dietary programs in our homes and schools, it is an important part. Making certain we have a safe environment, making certain we have a safe environment, making certain that our food and water supply is safe," says Staples.

Staples' opponent for the Republican nomination is Kerrville State Representative Harvey Hilderbran.

Current Ag Commissioner Susan Combs is running for state comptroller.
