Tyler Independent School District Enrolls Evacuees

Evacuees enrolled in the Tyler Independent School District Tuesday morning. Teams of administrators and counselors helped students fill out forms. School officials went to four shelters and hotels in Tyler. They got the chance to sit down and talk to the children. They say they are excited to offer students activities they did not have in Louisiana.

"We had some athletes that want to be in track," said George Faber, Director of Visual and Performing Arts. "They didn't have those types of things either, so this gives them a chance to really become a well rounded student. We're excited about letting them have the chance to be in sports and fine arts as well as academics."

Tyler ISD says it enrolled 138 students today, but it is still in need of school supplies. Donations can be dropped off at the Tyler ISD Administration building.
