Making it to a college football team was the first step for John Franklin. Getting noticed was the second step. This past Saturday he fulfilled the third step in his process of reaching his goal when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Franklin is not satisfied. Being drafted is an empty gesture if he is unable to make the team.
”I haven’t made the team," Franklin said. "Whether I was the first round draft pick, the seventh round pick or an undrafted free agent, it is a blessing. I can be a fourth round pick and not make the team. Then I am a draft pick for nothing. I am ready to show myself and show the pick was worth it. I want the Los Angeles Rams to know this dude is worth it, someone we want to keep and we invested on him for a reason.”
The defensive end will be competing for a spot on the 19th best defense in the NFL last season. The Rams gave up the twelfth fewest points per game, averaging just over 20 en route to an NFC West Divisional Championship.
"They have one of the best defensive lines in the NFL," Franklin said. "I am excited to learn as much as I can, as fast as possible."
Don't expect to see Franklin hanging out in some of the high traffic celebrity areas of L.A. He is still a small town boy at heart.
"I am excited to go out there, but I have never been a bright light kind of guy," Franklin said. "I am a sit at home and do what i got to do to be the best player I can be. I don't party at all. I don't drink. I am just trying to make the 53 man roster and help the Rams win."
