Some East Texans have taken it upon themselves to collect, and deliver much needed relief supplies to hurricane victims in Mississippi and Alabama. Members of several different Longview churches pitched in to donate food water and other supplies to be taken to a rural area of Mobile, AL. Volunteers loaded a truck at Macedonia Baptist Church earlier this evening. Seeing the reports that help was slow coming to victims, church members decided to make a relief trip themselves.
"After seeing all this we wanted to help and couldn't get in , and through my son and his rig he wanted to carry materials in there. We just kind of got it together ourselves and was gonna do it in spite of everything else," said pastor Othell LaFerney of the Glenwood Baptist Church in Gilmer.
The group intends to distribute the supplies they have, and then return for a second trip to another needy area.
