Longview Mayor Announces Evacuee Help Program

So many donations have been taken over the last two days at Longview's Maude Cobb Activity Center, no more can be stored there. Now mayor Jay Dean has announced a plan to drop donations at alternate sights.

It's called "Help A Friend" and it's similar to the Salvations Army's Angel Tree. It allows donors to help families with specific needs by calling the Red Cross and getting a list of needs from individual families. Dean says it's desperately needed.

"Our community can best demonstrate our sense of compassion by meeting specific needs. This may not be home, but for now, our goal is to make their stay here as pleasant as possible," says Dean.

HUD representatives will be at Maude Cobb Friday to help find possible housing to evacuees who have decided to stay in East Texas.
